I just learned this lesson, and let me tell you, it’s a game changer.
Workouts can be many things. They can be intense, relaxing, motivating, stressful, and the list goes on. Personally, I don’t have a lot of time to devote to the gym. That’s why I like to make the most out of my workouts.
I used to be on my phone throughout my entire gym routine. Texting, Insta, Twitter, the whole shabang. Now, I leave my phone outside/tucked away in my bag. Totally changed my workout.
Not only can you focus on your workout and not get distracted and waste time, you can use your workout as a form of meditation. Even if you’re doing HIIT and not into yoga, your workout should be YOU time. Your little sliver of time every day that you don’t have to worry about anyone or anything but you and your body. This is PRECIOUS. Turning off your phone (or turning it to airplane mode if you use the music on it) separates you from stresses and excess noise, and allows you to just work on you.
After doing this for a couple months, I will never go back. It has become a force of habit to turn on airplane mode at the gym and leave it outside for yoga. Now, I reflect on me and my progress on my morning run, and can truly meditate in yoga. After my workouts I am calm and rejuvenated, rather than stressed and busy. I don’t think about what time it is or where I have to be or do that day, it’s like a mini vacation.
Try it out! Do any of you already do this? Who’s going to try it this week?

I LOVE this tip! You go to the gym and see so many girls on their phone! I too have been a culprit before but after taking Yoga at my university, I’ve developed a love of the silence that comes with turn off your phone. Great tip!
I found you through Lucky and i’m def following since I’m trying to become more active:)

The BEST tip! The gym has actually become the one place where I feel like I can escape from my phone. It helps that my gym plays good music otherwise I’d need my iPhone but for now i’m happy to part with it!
great tip - I need to take time away from my phone also. The gym is a great place to do it!
